Most evenings as you walk down State Street near the Fiesta 5 Theatre and what used to be a Borders bookstore, you're greeted by a cacophony of guitar chords bouncing and booming from the nearby two-story parking garage. The typical passerby will wander on, pleasantly amused by the sourceless tunes but simply not curious enough to find out who or what is up there.
Our new resident videographer, Marz Miller, took the time the other night to check things out, meeting Bruce Goldish whose “fingerstyle” guitar playing has turned the garage into his personal concert hall with impeccable acoustics. A Minnesota native and registered nurse in Cottage Hospital's intensive care unit, 52-year-old Goldish has played the structure for seven years and talked to The Independent about his experiences.

Thank you, Indy, for giving some time and space to a hard working, down to earth Santa Barbara musician.

I'm jealous of the Tommy Emmanuel autograph on his guitar.
Good stuff all around; interview, video, and music. Keep on pluckin' Gold-ish.

He is our own Leo Kottke...in fact , just after a Leo Kottke concert we were treated to this virtuoso as we walked home...resplendit,refined,deliciously elegant playing!
He is like some sort of "Guitar monk"...quiet and serene with no ambition beyond the music...Slange!

I met this guy at least a decade ago, at a little musical event where he was introduced as "Bruce Goldfish." We're both from MN and bonded. When I pass by the parking garage I go up and he even lets me play a few notes. A complete Santa Barbara icon!
