The Dish: “Remember: Pancakes absorb alcohol!” This tagline from one of Santa Barbara’s oldest restaurants brings its offerings full circle. Since 1928, Joe’s has been home to American favorites and stiff (I mean really stiff) cocktails. While the night crowd may only recognize the bar scene, the restaurant actually serves food all day long. Its effortless transition makes it a unique spot that hits all the right notes. Generous portions of prime steak (try the 14-oz. slow-roasted prime rib), pastas, and burgers are served on red-checkered tablecloths. Taking American cuisine a step further, Joe’s also serves meatloaf alongside mashed potatoes and gravy, as well as fish-and-chips. An extensive breakfast menu includes omelets, a tri-tip breakfast burrito, and a pancake sandwich. Quite the legendary spot on State Street.
