Stephen Underwood, chief assistant county counsel since 2001, is retiring after more than 28 years with County of Santa Barbara. He will be taking on a position as faculty chair with the Santa Barbara College of Law, where he has taught since 1998. Underwood, known for his good nature and sense of humor, as well as his legal prowess, made his way through the ranks over the years, from deputy, to senior deputy, to chief deputy in 1990.
