As the days get shorter, people’s clothes are getting longer. Tank tops are being swapped for long sleeves and shorts for trusty, comfortable jeans. To celebrate the change seasons and raise money for a good cause, the Volcom store on State Street is inviting everyone to embrace the season and their fellow Santa Barbarans.

On October 21, the Volcom store in downtown Santa Barbara will host an event to promote its “Give Jeans a Chance” drive, which aims to collect more than 50,000 pairs of wearable jeans worldwide through its global network of stores, partnering retailers, and community partners. The Santa Barbara store is hoping to make a big contribution.

“Store to store, we don’t have a personal goal,” said S.B.’s store manager Kyle Ennis, who had far taken in about 100 pairs of jeans as of last week. “It’s just to try to collect as many pairs of jeans as possible, get the community involved, and give back to the less fortunate.”

The Give Jeans a Chance drive is part of Volcom’s Give Back Series, in which participants raise awareness and donations for people-based causes. “Obviously we have a pretty large homeless situation here,” said Ennis, “so a lot of them need help and this is a great opportunity for people who have more to help others out.”

Parker Coffin

The campaign kicked off at the Santa Barbara location on September 1 and will culminate on Octovber 21 with a party overseen by Parker Coffin, one of Volcom’s team riders. Though they are taking donations all the time, Ennis hopes the upcoming event means two to three more boxfuls of jeans for a local homeless shelter, as donations in the past have gone to Casa Esperanza. For those out there that need a little incentive, every person who donates will get a free hat and stickers as well as being entered into a drawing for up to $500 in Volcom gear.

Volcom’s history of service goes further than Give Jeans a Chance. The company hosts free contests for kids with cash prizes and giveaways. Volcom also collaborates with organizations to help with causes, such as Boarding for Breast Cancer and Krochet Kids. The company creates products with the organizations’ logos and then gives proceeds from those products to the organizations.

For more information about the Give Jeans a Chance event on Saturday, October 21, stop by the Volcom store at 625 State Street or give them a call at 805-884-0346.
