Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians Donates $90,000 to Three Area Organizations

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians today presented checks totaling $90,000 from the proceeds of the 7th Annual Chumash Charity Golf Classic to three community organizations: Friends of the Library of Santa Ynez Valley, Solvang Senior Center, and Buellton Senior Center.

“Our commitment to the community remains as strong as ever,” said Tribal Chairman Vincent Armenta. “Each year we select organizations to benefit from the proceeds of the tournament that share the same level of community commitment.”

The proceeds are shared evenly between the three organizations with each organization receiving a check for $30,000.

“The Friends of the Library were very pleased to be chosen as beneficiaries of this event,” said Elizabeth Breen, Board Vice-President for Friends of the Library Santa Ynez Valley. “The funds will make a significant contribution to ongoing programs and materials available to the public.”

This is the seventh year the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians has hosted the popular tournament, which was held on August 11, 2011 at the Alisal River Course, with total proceeds to-date totaling more than $650,000. Past beneficiaries of the tournament include: People Helping People, Stuart C. Gildred YMCA, and Unity Shoppe of Santa Barbara.

Giving back to the community has always been a tradition of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. Today, the Santa Ynez Chumash tribe continues that tradition by donating to hundreds of local groups, organizations and schools in the community.
