Chamber Members Appreciated

Wine Cask Hosts October 26 Tasting for ‘Santa Barbara First’

The Santa Barbara Region Chamber of Commerce will host a members’ appreciation from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on October 26 at the Wine Cask Tasting Room, 813 Anacapa Street, to celebrate the launch of “Santa Barbara First,” a campaign to encourage patronage of South Coast merchants.

Wine Cask partner Doug Margerum has produced wine for more than 10 years. The Margerum Wine Co. makes sauvignon blanc, syrah, and a Rhone blend.

“What better way to highlight the local merchants and products of Santa Barbara than by featuring some of our fabulous local wineries?” said chamber Ambassador President James Terry.

If a nonmember joins the chamber prior to the event, admission to the wine tasting will be complimentary.

Tickets to the event are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Contact the Santa Barbara Chamber to purchase tickets at (805) 965-3023.

Book-Signing

The coauthors of News for All the People: The Epic Story of Race and the American Media will attend a book signing at 6 p.m. on October 23 with a free lecture and reception to follow from 7 to 8 p.m. at La Casa de la Raza, 601 East Montecito Street, Santa Barbara.

KCSB 91.9 FM and La Casa de la Raza will cohost “A Noche de Cultura” for coauthors Juan González and Joseph Torres’s latest publication.

The coauthors’ Santa Barbara appearance is one stop during a two-week coast-to-coast tour for the Verso Books release.

González is a two-time winner of the George Polk Award for commentary and a former president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. He is a columnist for New York’s Daily News and cohost of the nationally syndicated TV and radio news show Democracy Now!
