Taylor Soto, 22, didn’t make it far down the road after he allegedly stole a pickup truck hitched with a flatbed trailer Monday morning.
According to police, Soto jumped behind the wheel as employees of construction design firm IWL Inc. —located at 415 N Quarantina Street — were about to load a piece of equipment. As the employees gave chase on foot, Soto, never completely gaining control of the vehicle, careened along Quarantina Street, striking six parked cars, a telephone pole, and a bicycle.
He was detained by police at 700 East Haley Street and booked in County Jail. Authorities said Soto wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but suspect mental illness may have contributed to the incident.
