The Fund for Santa Barbara will host the 2012 Year End Grant Awards Party on Tuesday, December 4th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at SOhO Restaurant & Music Club – 1221 State Street in Santa Barbara (in Victoria Court).

The event is a time to celebrate the work of the fourteen community organizations receiving grants, as well as the fact that The Fund for Santa Barbara has made more than $500,000 in grants in 2012 (the largest grant-making total in its 32-year history). Attendees will be treated to appetizers by SOhO and live music. Spanish and ASL translation will be provided and everyone is welcome!

The Fall 2012 Grant Recipients are…

CAUSE / PUEBLO Regional Immigrant Rights & Integration Project – $10,000

Funding to help re-establish a Southern Santa Barbara County community organizer to work on immigrant rights and empowerment

Central Coast Future Leaders / Family Leadership Camp & Guadalupe Expansion – $10,000

Support to strengthen youth and families to advocate for their interests in Santa Maria, Guadalupe and New Cuyama

Central Coast Green Team – $9,000

Funding to promote Northern Santa Barbara County environmental stewardship through events, networking and multi-media broadcasting

Palabra / Central Coast Response Network’s North County Expansion – $7,200

Seed funding to establish a locally trained response team for traumatic incidents of suicide and homicide

Conflict Solutions Center of Santa Barbara County / Restorative Justice Partnership Initiative – $6,000

Continuing support for alternatives to incarceration by bringing together youth perpetrators with the victims of their crimes

Eucalyptus / Intervening as an Ally – $8,000

Funding to train community members to intervene when LGBTQ hate crimes and bias occur at UCSB and in Isla Vista

Freedom 4Youth Leadership Program – $4,000

Support to create a new program to teach critical life skills to incarcerated young women at juvenile hall

Guadalupe Union School District / Second Annual Guadalupe Reading Festival – $6,185

Funding to promote the love of reading, parents’ leadership in their children’s education, cultural tolerance and awareness

Mesa Harmony Garden / Achieving Self-Sustainability – $3,500

Support for a productive food forest, benefiting the Food Bank and demonstrating sustainable approaches to urban food production

Santa Barbara Beekeepers Association / Sweet Start – $2,500

Seed funding to provide coaching and job training for students at La Cuesta High School in the art of beekeeping

SBCAN / North County Oil Coalition – $8,000

Funding for legal review, community education and organizing on the Santa Maria Energy Project’s development proposal

SBCAN / The Mobile Home Owners Project – $7,500

Continued funding for community organizing to press for public policies that protect mobile homeowners’ rights

Santa Maria – Lompoc NAACP / Town Hall Meetings on Diversity, Tolerance and the Affordable Care Act – $8,000

Support for town hall meetings focused on removing all barriers of racial discrimination and educating the community on the Affordable Care Act

William James Association / Poetic Justice Project – $10,000

Continued funding for arts education, mentoring and theater production with formerly incarcerated youth and adults

The Fund for Santa Barbara’s grant-making and technical assistance programs support community groups working for social, economic, environmental and political change throughout Santa Barbara County. Since 1980, the Fund has awarded over $5 million to more than 900 community organizations including PUEBLO, Los Padres ForestWatch, SBCAN, Pacific Pride Foundation, Just Communities, Centro Binacional, COAST, and the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics. In addition, the Fund provides free technical assistance in the areas of fundraising, community organizing, organizational development, advocacy, and effective use of media to more than 200 projects each year.

The Year End Grant Awards Party is open to the public at 5:00 p.m. There is no fee, but a $10 donation is requested at the door. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
