Despite hopes that shovels would be digging by the end of 2012, the organization behind the effort to build an ice skating rink on Storke Road in Goleta needs another $750,000 to trigger groundbreaking on the $8 million project.

“We were hoping for the end of 2012 to start construction, but, for now, it looks more like early 2013,” said Ada Conner, the capital campaign director of the Ice in Paradise project for the Greater Santa Barbara Ice Skating Association. “We are still looking for a benevolent Santa to step forward to get us to our ground breaking goal!”

The rink is located just south of Girsh Park and the Camino Real Marketplace, and the exterior plan has already been approved by the City of Goleta. See iceinparadise.com.
