Despite hopes that shovels would be digging by the end of 2012, the organization behind the effort to build an ice skating rink on Storke Road in Goleta needs another $750,000 to trigger groundbreaking on the $8 million project.

“We were hoping for the end of 2012 to start construction, but, for now, it looks more like early 2013,” said Ada Conner, the capital campaign director of the Ice in Paradise project for the Greater Santa Barbara Ice Skating Association. “We are still looking for a benevolent Santa to step forward to get us to our ground breaking goal!”

The rink is located just south of Girsh Park and the Camino Real Marketplace, and the exterior plan has already been approved by the City of Goleta. See iceinparadise.com.

Break ground and raise the rest as you go, put some in high interest bearing accounts. People will be more eager to donate when they see what is going up instead of just hearing what will be.

WooWoo was "touched" as a child on the poopoo pipe by Gordie Howe.

It's the only explanation I can come up with for the location of that post.

As someone else suggested, bail the thread when Neil/WooWoo
adds his off-topic and delusional comments. I realize I'm seemingly contradicting my advice here, but thought I'd add this reminder. There's no point in trying to engage with or, as in previous comment, bait him.

WooWoo, the effort to raise private funds to build a rink was started by a group of local enthusiasts who know that having a rink will be a great asset to the community: for kids, for adults...everyone.

Ada is right. We need Santa to step in with another 750k so we can take out our loans and fund-raise the last portion as we build. Perhaps you have $750k? I know a way your heart can grow 3 sizes!!!

"...another $750,000 to trigger groundbreaking on the $8 million project."

ALL WE NEED IS A BAKE SALE !!!

Especially good to break ground and then just have a big eroding hole in the ground because they have no more money. Goleta needs its own Canary in the hole mine.

Hey BigD! Why did you go and give the nitwits another reason to keep responding? Don't you know enough to just avert your eyes and walk on by without empowering them? Even crossing the street is a good solution to avoid creating a confrontation. Abandon Thread Indeed!

I live right there and I wish they would at least clean up the site in the meantime. Looks like hell.
