Friends of the Mental Health Association Seeking Sponsors for First Annual Walk for Mental Wellness

Walk to benefit Recovery Learning Center at the Mental Health Association, Santa Barbara’s only rehabilitation and social center for people recovering from mental illness

The Mental Health Association in Santa Barbara County is calling for local support from individuals or businesses to sponsor its first annual Walk for Mental Wellness.

The Walk will take place on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Lower Manning Park in Montecito. The Friends of the Mental Health Association, a volunteer auxiliary composed of community members concerned about the recent dramatic reduction in public funding of some MHA services, are the organizers of the Walk. Proceeds from the Walk benefit the Recovery Learning Center at the Mental Health Association, Santa Barbara’s only rehabilitation and social center for people recovering from mental illness.

The Friends of MHA’s goal is to raise $80,000 from the Walk, which would restore and expand services provided by the Recovery Learning Center. Sponsorships would help defray the costs of the Walk itself, allowing all ticket sales and funds raised from the Walk go directly to the Recovery Learning Center.

“We would like to invite local people and businesses to join us by becoming an underwriting sponsor of the Walk,” said George Kaufmann, MHA board member and member of the Friends of MHA. “Sponsorships will help the Mental Health Association continue to provide the safety net services so desperately needed by our members and implement new services focused on supporting members efforts to recover and reintegrate into the community in this era of public mental health budget constraints.”

Individuals and businesses interesting in providing a sponsorship or receiving more information about sponsorship benefits, the Walk and the Mental Health Association, can call (805) 884-8440 or visit www.mhainsb.org.
