I am so excited that our very own local bakery is making the best gluten-free bread I have ever tasted. I was in Our Daily Bread on Santa Barbara Street the other day and got a loaf of their gluten-free bread. For years now, after identifying a wheat/gluten allergy, I have been looking for a “GF” bread that really tasted good. Well, I’ve found it! Not only is it GF but it is also dairy-free. Evidently, several months ago, owner Laurie Zalk asked her baker to develop a gluten-free bread. He tinkered with this and that, generally using brown rice and fava/garbanzo bean flour to create an excellent bread. In addition to the bread, Laurie played with recipes and came up with some GF pastries: oatmeal raisin and thumbprint cookies, carrot cupcakes, and banana and chocolate chip bread. I am ordering a GF carrot cake for the baby blessing I’m having for my daughter next Saturday.

How happy am I?
