Santa Barbara police officers are responding to a reported armed robbery attempt in City Parking Lot #7, on Figueroa Street between Anacapa and State streets.
There are few available details at the moment, but, based on scanner chatter, it appears a man dressed in an orange construction vest and blue jeans brandished a gun and demanded money from the kiosk attendant shortly after 4 p.m. As he fled, however, the suspect reportedly shed the vest and donned a different light-colored jacket.
A police department spokesperson wasn’t able to comment on the specifics of the incident, explaining responders are still out in the field, but he confirmed authorities are actively looking into reports of a gunman in the area.

Thanks for providing more details, yesterday we heard about this but the details were so few. I work right there so hearing about a robbery at gunpoint but not knowing if the person tried to rob the kiosk or a pedestrian really stressed me out and made me concerned about walking through the parking lot!

That is rather ballsy, to be attempting an Armed Robbery so close to the Courthouse and Police Department. Sounds like a possible Day-Laborer/work-release person trying to make an extra cash with either a real gun or a toy/softair gun.
