Santa Barbara Airport officials announced Thursday that Alaska Airlines will host seasonal nonstop flights to Portland, Oregon, beginning June 4 and continuing until August 25, 2012.
The 70-passenger jet will depart daily from Santa Barbara at 11:50 a.m., arriving in Portland at 1:55 p.m. “These new routes give our customers additional options to access some of the most popular summer markets out of Portland,” said Joe Sprague, Alaska Airlines’s vice president of marketing, in a prepared statement.
Like all Alaska Airlines flights, complimentary Starbucks coffee and soft drinks will be available, as well as wine and microbrews. Flights start at $99 for a one-way ticket.

Great news! I was sorely disappointed when Alaska cut that flight several years back, forcing passengers to route through Sacramento or Seattle. Go Alaska!

Why Portland?
It is Alaska Airlines hub. You can go beyond Portland with flights to Hawaii and many other destinations. Besides its only seasonal service anyways.
I'm hoping that United offers flights to Houston in the near future now that they mergered with Continental. There are so many places you can get to from houston!

Because some people need to visit Portlandia and the Feminist Bookstore there.
And, the customer base supports the flight route, unless some people want airlines to be Socialist?

@sbconcerned I think the idea is more so that Portlanders can come vacation here for the summer (we need those dollars, right?).
And if you like SB, I don't see what you dislike about Portland? Kinda like the pot calling the kettle black.

A fine idea! The Pacific Northwest is a great summer destination! (Not so sure about Santa Barbara given the summers we've had lately...)

Just in time to visit my Stepmom in Vancouver WA, and use the credit from a flight I had to cancel last October. YAY! Going to Seattle, and then changing planes to fly back down to Portland, is vershtunken.

Been wanting to vent this for several months now, in regards to our (NEW AIPORT). It is an embarrasment to our City of Santa Barbara.
I was seeing someone off in early Dec. and may I add, there was one person at the desk who was on the phone the whole time and roughly about 15 to 20 people waiting in line. I felt so sorry for her as she was trying her best. There was no other person that could help her? And there was no one to go to for help. A self serving machine there, that no one knew how to operate! Then also having to find out that you had to pay another 25 dollars to check in a bag. I then approached a person who was wearing a badge, but could not help me in anyway. Other people were complaining just the same. It was truely a Joke. One more thing, we who live here cannot even go upstairs to sit in the Restuarant, and enjoy a meal and watch the planes to see our loved ones off. I say a lot of money was spent for nothing. The old station was so sweet and now we have to put up with this, which we cannot even enjoy. I certainly hope that in February when I have to fly out that things will have changed for the better. I and others are very dissapointed indeed. I will stay positive and hope things improve in a rather short amount of time.

Was looking forward to visiting my kiddos who are both in Portlandia, and have been checking Alaska Air for these $99 fares since this announcement came out. Sadly, the cheapest they show is $160 each way. Like the non stop flight, but I'd like the $99 price to go with it! I hate it when they tease us like that. There were probably 1 or 2 seats per flight at that price...
