Casa Dolores invites the public to attend the opening celebration of these wonderful and curious art pieces, which were fashioned in the wake of Marcelino Vicente Mulato, a flamboyant artisan and social outcast of the 1960’s with a penchant for “women’s work” and widely known for sacrilegiously depicting the devil – through clay – in holy, grotesque and carnal scenes.

  • Date: Saturday, January 28, 2012
  • Time: 1pm – 4pm
  • Location: Casa Dolores is located at 1023 Bath Street (The Botiller Adobe)

A number of the exhibition’s whimisical sculptures feature one or more devils who are participating in everyday activities (patronizing the disco, hitching a bus ride). Select pieces include religious overtones and others depict daily life in the village.

During the opening reception of the exhibit, guests will enjoy refreshments, live music by local musician Kaj Hoffman, and will have the opportunity to win raffle prizes. The event is free and sponsored by Deckers Outdoor Corporation and Chris Hoover Construction.

“Ocumicho, Michoacán” will be on display from January 28 through May 5, 2012.
