Wrong and Wronger

On Thursday, May 24, your paper published the Capitol Letters column titled “Inside Politics: National Media Attention Focusing on SB’s Campaign for Congress.

The writer, a Jerry Roberts, offered “proof” that this group, which promotes prosperity and freedom through limited government, is stupid, ignorant, and illiterate: a photo of an invitation to a Mitchum event with misspellings.

In fact, his conclusive evidence was cropped so readers could not see [in the Independent‘s print edition] that the invitation had been produced by and paid for by the Mitchum campaign, not by the tea party; and lazily failed to reveal the much-publicized fact that Santa Barbara Tea Party did not endorse Mitchum.

This is not “inside politics,” it’s yellow journalism. Where is the integrity of this veteran reporter?
