Santa Barbara Search and Rescue responds to mother and daughter trapped on rock face near Painted cave
The Santa Barbara Search and Rescue team on Sunday plucked a 35-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter from halfway up a 200-foot-tall rock face near Painted Cave. They had parked their car on Painted Cave Road above the monument area and set off on what they thought was a trail leading to the site. When the trail ended at the rock face, they attempted to climb down but became stuck and couldn't continue.
A group of nearby motorcyclists heard the pair's cries for help and called 911. Dispatchers directed 11 rescuers to the site, who rappelled down to the two, outfitting them with safety helmets, gloves, and harnesses, and then lowering them the rest of the way. They walked away uninjured.

The word is spelled "rappelled," not "repelled." Evidently no one on the Indy staff checks spelling before you post stuff.

Dolomush would have a meltdown if he saw this. As you know, he's the new Grammar Cop.

SAR members are volunteers, so we really didn't pay for anything. Kudos to the team for another great effort!

No Bill, dolomush is an EXPERIENCED DRUNK DRIVER. SezNothing is the self-appointed grammar cop that doesn't understand plain English out of sheer hatred.
DonMcD is the resident commie who hates anything Progressive. Jeez, can't keep the titles straight can you? HAHAHA!

The 'mom' needs to wear a sign around their neck for a week. "Please ask me how I scared my child for life"

I can see how this could happen, the mom wanting to share exploration with her daughter. Wow, they'll never forget the ending. We should all be so thankful for the fire and rescue teams. You all rock! Thank God for you.
Don't let the naysayers dampen your spirits, Mom and Daughter. You went out to play and got a bit too lost along the way. Things happen, and this could have turned out way worse, but it didn't. Now, try horseback riding.

It's not just people. Equipment, fuel, peripheral support. . .
The Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue team is composed of volunteers who donate hundreds of hours per year and spend hundreds of dollars on personal equipment in order to perform their duties. While the Sheriff's Department provides some funding, most team equipment is purchased through the donation of funds from many charitable foundations and generous individuals.
The team is currently pursuing funds to purchase equipment. To help the team, please contact us by phone or email. All donations are 100% tax deductible and sincerely appreciated! Secure online donations by credit card can be made through JustGive.org and checks can be mailed to:
