Despite being ground zero for wine country, the town’s name should make more than clear why there’s a Los Olivos Jazz and Olive Festival. The Rotary Club-sponsored shindig on Saturday, June 9, 1-4 p.m., was “created as a community event to celebrate the town’s olive production heritage,” explained fest chair Jim Lohnas. “We were searching for a music genre that was consistent with the great wine and excellent food that typifies Los Olivos. Jazz was the logical choice.” In addition to the great music, fest-goers get to nosh on the handiwork of “O Chefs” who, Lohnas said, “represent the best amateur chefs in the Santa Ynez Valley.” Dishes range from smoked olives to orange-infused olive oil cake. Said Lohnas, “Each year brings new stars and food discoveries to the scene.” And, of course, there’s wine from more than 25 producers, including Alma Rosa, Qupé, Stolpman, and Tercero.
