Continuation and Alternative High Schools Principal to Retire

The principal of Santa Barbara’s continuation and alternative high schools, Kathy Abney, has agreed to enter retirement and work full-time as a volunteer employee the next two years. Her salary will instead fund an assistant principal — Frann Wageneck, who is transferring from S.B. High School — who will, if all goes as planned, become the next principal. Abney, who has served as principal of La Cuesta and Alta Vista for 11 years, wants to ensure they make it through the accreditation process before stepping down for good.
