Coast Guard to Launch Parachute Flare

Training Exercise Will Take Place on Leadbetter Beach

Sometime between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. today, the Coast Guard will shoot a large parachute flare off Leadbetter Beach for training purposes. The flare, said Santa Barbara police, will be very bright and take a couple minutes to float down to the water. “If you observe this,” said a police spokesperson, “please do not call 911.”
