Founded in 1962, SBCSAR responds to emergency searches and rescues throughout Santa Barbara County. As a member of the elite Mountain Rescue Association, SBCSAR also responds to mutual aid calls throughout California and the Western United States. The team responds to an average of 120-145 calls per year, making it one of the busiest teams in California. The all-volunteer team is comprised of about 40 members and is highly trained in technical rope rescue, swiftwater, alpine operations, search theory, tracking, aviation rescue, search dog deployment, and emergency medicine.
