I am a 1975 grad of UCSB in aquatic biology. I am a lifetime member of UCSB Alumni, always a contributor to the university and scholarship funds, and occasionally active in the Washington, DC alumni group. I returned a couple of weekends ago with my wife to show her Santa Barbara and UCSB, neither of which she had ever seen. We attended the wonderful May 12 UCSB event where Mr. Jeff Henley announced his $50 million gift to the university.

In 1975, neither Stearns Wharf nor the Goleta Pier was open. Downtown was pleasant then, but nowhere near the active art gallery and retail district that is now. It is wonderful to see that the natural beauty of Santa Barbara and its surroundings remains the same. The beaches and water are cleaner.

Not a bit of tar on the sand that I could see. The UCSB campus has many more architecturally beautiful buildings compared to the bunkers that it seemed we had back then. I just want to say thanks to all of you who are actively keeping the South County including UCSB such a vital and wonderful place.
