County Releases Good Money News


County officials expect the general fund budget to come in $4.6 million ahead of projections at the end of the fiscal year in June 2013. Most county departments are achieving salary and benefit savings, and 64 out of 69 county funds are favorable, according to county budget director Tom Alvarez. Still, the projected budget gap for the next fiscal year is $12.4 million. Looking down the road, how to fund ongoing operating expenses at the new North County jail when it opens in 2017-2018 remains a primary concern to the Board of Supervisors.
