The Airman and Family Readiness Center, responsible for family members’ programs during deployments, have planned this event in order for children to experience what happens when their mom or dad deploys overseas.

During the event, children will go through the exact same process as military members go through to prepare for a deployment.

Pre-deployment events include being issued an identification card, dog tags, attending briefings, and meeting base leadership. Children will then “deploy” to various locations to give the children the experience of deployment training and equipment. There will be displays by military working dog teams, explosive ordnance teams, medical, chemical gear and fire department. Children are encouraged to wear their parent’s uniform top at the event.

Independent Discussion Guidelines

This is a very helpful program for Military families, especially children who don't understand the loyality the parents are bound to by our Government to serve for as long as the Military demands. I remember some of my classmates who's parents were deployed and they voiced their discontent for the Father that was never there for sports, plays, awards, they thought Dad didn't want to be apart of their lives and that they WANTED to be in military service; so much later in life the family disintergrated and they still suffer the ill effects in their families.
