Santa Barbara City College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa inducted 150 new members for fall semester 2012.

Membership currently stands at approximately 400 students.

PTK recognizes academic achievement and provides opportunities for students at community colleges to participate in honors, leadership and service activities for the community. To join, students must have taken at least 12.0 units and earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Among its activities this fall, the PTK chapter is hosting a conference on foreign aid with UCSB professors and filmmakers and laying the foundation for a micro-credit toward the education of less privileged students at a school in Kenya. Members also are volunteering at a Santa Barbara homeless shelter.
