Getting Buggy

I read some studies from Nambia, from Oxford University, and a few other sources, and learned that the bagrada bug’s eggs are sensitive to movement. If you have seen bagrada bugs in your garden [“Buggin’ Out!” 9/27/12, independent.com/killingcrops] you can lightly cultivate the soil between the rows to good effect. The eggs will die when moved.

You might also try blending garlic with water and then spraying the soil. Clove oil diluted in water, about 100 drops per gallon, might work well as a spray. If you Google bagarada bug remedies you will see a number of potential remedies to choose from according to the size of your planting.

The quicker we all react, the better chance there is of greatly limiting damage now and in the future.
