The three hospitals making up Cottage Health System outperformed most hospitals in the region and nation when it came to readmitting patients discharged for heart attack, heart failure, and pneumonia, the conditions studied by Medicare examiners when gauging a hospital’s effectiveness. Regionally, 20 percent of all patients discharged in Santa Barbara, Ventura and Los Angeles counties are readmitted after 30 days for the same ailment. By contrast, Cottage’s Santa Barbara facility posted a 14.5 percent readmission rate, its Goleta branch a 6.9 percent rate, and its Santa Ynez facility 8.7 percent. Hospital administrators credited their emphasis on discharge planning and patient follow-up, and shorter lengths of stay and lower infection rates.

Yeah. They probably all died. Good grief.
What you should have said was nothing. What a waste of a waste of time.

Ha, this is exactly what I thought, too...they never made it out! No, no, I kid, I kid. I think we have a relatively decent hospital in Cottage.
But I do honestly wonder what the criteria for readmission stats are. For instance, do things like local residents vs out of town patients get lumped in? If someone gets sick here but goes home well and relapses, they'll obviously be going to a local hospital. And what about degree of disease or even things like WHY they come back....if someone goes in for pneumonia and comes back two weeks later for a staph infection they got at the hospital, does that count as a readmission or does it count as a new admission because it's for a different reason?
Too many variables here to take it all in at face value.

OK. If you don't get it, you don't get it.

Nick was spun.
Or, they are not readmitted there because Cottage Inc. kicked them out so fast from the start.
