Effective November 1, anglers between Point Conception and the Mexican border won’t be able to fish deeper than 300 feet, a reduction of 60 feet until the new year. Citing the higher-than-normal incidental take of cowcod — a large, deep-sea-living species of rockfish declared overfished in 1999 — the California Department of Fish and Game announced the decision this week following a recommendation by the Pacific Fishery Management Council at its September meeting.

So because in 1999 a fish was considered "overfished" so in 2012 we have even more restrictions on fishing? Ummm and how does that make sense??

Its crazy, more cow cod and more black sea bass being caught and because there are more fish, we get more closures.

60' is the difference between catching fish and not catching fish when the reef is 360' deep, the more they limit the more pressure on the few spots left..... oh wait, that sounds like a plan

Our freedoms are taken away little by little and unfortunately people don't think it's a big deal because it's such a small change that they can live with and usually doesn't affect them much. Then a generation later, your freedoms are wiped clean.

You fisher men need to remember
" That beauty is its own reason for being, ". Please abide by just laws that prevent overfishing in order to keep a species alive,
We don't want another wipeout
Like with the Passenger Pigeons, I still weep for them!
