Arts of the Palette at Spanish Garden Inn

Foodbank Fundraiser Features bouchon, Wine Cask, and Intermezzo

The Spanish Garden Inn — yes, they slightly rearranged their name — will be conducting its third annual fundraiser for the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, this time for the brand-new Kid’s Farmer’s Market Program. The event, Arts of the Palette, is Wednesday, October 3, 5-8 p.m. Call (805) 564-4700 or see

How do you freshen up a fundraiser like this?

Chefs Greg Murphy, Brandon Hughes, and Nik Ramirez of bouchon, Wine Cask, and Intermezzo “will be cooking on site, conversing and describing the ingredients, their cooking secrets, and why they chose to make the dishes they are featuring,” explained Christine Piper, sales manager of the Spanish Garden Inn. Beyond the talented trio, the appetizers will first be served blind. “We will not announce to the guests which chef prepared which hors d’ouevre but rather have them guess,” said Mitchell Sjerven, co-owner of the Wine Cask and Intermezzo and owner of bouchon. “Suffice to say, the three will try to outdo each other with a savory, red-wine-friendly creation.”

What does this event support?

In the past, the Inn supported Backpacks for Kids, but this year, the proceeds go to the Kid’s Farmer’s Market Program, which Piper said helps “to bring a farm-to-table, fresh-food experience and education to children. Children will learn the values of food and will bring that home to their families. We wanted to give back to our community in a meaningful way that would make a difference.”

What will the auction items be like?

“The items are inclusive to art, food, and wine choices, designed to stimulate, excite, and stir the senses,” said Piper. “There will be ‘spot raffles’ throughout the evening that include a one-night stay at the Spanish Garden Inn.” True to the event’s name, there will be plenty of art to win, from artists like Ellen Yeomans, Cathy Quiel, Susan Belloni, Margaret Nadeau, Rich Untermann, Rodger Dawson, Fritz Pinney, and Ken Pfeiffer.
