NEWSMAN IN TRAINING: All Jack Crosbie wants to do is write the news. During his two years at the UCSB student paper the Daily Nexus, he was known for putting in long hours — often sleeping in the office — and churning out voluminous copy. So it’s no surprise that after graduating last spring with dual degrees in political science and history, Crosbie sought out The Santa Barbara Independent’s popular internship program, breaking into the news section this week with a report on a state investigation into Cottage Hospital’s relative monopoly on area health care. A sports fan and frequenter of the Glass Factory shooting range up in the mountains — where he unloads his 1950s Remington shotgun and WWII-era Russian rifle — the Fresno-area native said “with 95-percent certainty” he can beat you in ping-pong.
