Firefighters mop up Funk Zone fire

Funk Zone Fire Contained to Storage Yard

Roofing Materials Ignited Friday Afternoon

Roofing materials in a small storage yard at 110 Santa Barbara Street in the Funk Zone caught fire at around 1:20 p.m. Friday afternoon. City firefighters with three engines, a water truck, and battalion chief responded within minutes and knocked down the blaze. One nearby structure sustained minor damage to its exterior and other objects in the yard — including a boat — were burned, but no buildings were lost and no injuries were reported, said Gary Pitney with City Fire. Investigators are working to determine what started the fire.
