Sports Highlights: April 9-16

It’s a big week on local volleyball courts. At Santa Barbara High, the Dons (ranked No. 4 in CIF Division 2) host No. 5 San Marcos on Tuesday (April 9) and No. 10 Dos Pueblos on Thursday. At UCSB’s Thunderdome, the Gaucho men try to secure their position in the postseason playoffs with matches against USC on Wednesday and Pepperdine on Friday. Also, SBCC closes out its season Wednesday night against Long Beach.

Girls softball is as good as it gets when Dos Pueblos plays Buena High. They will get together today on the DP diamond. Buena’s Bulldogs are ranked No. 3 in CIF Division 4, and the Chargers are No. 6.

Carpinteria’s Russell Cup track and field meet is the most venerable show in town. It will be staged for the 94th time Saturday at the high school stadium. Forty teams from schools with smaller enrollments will compete with the host Warriors.
