With a victory in a close contest between University of North Carolina at Wilmington and University of North Texas, UC Santa Barbara is bringing Seth Rogen, Craig Robinson, and Danny McBride to campus today. Students are invited to the free event at Storke Plaza at 3 p.m. for food, music, and in-person appearances from the actors.

Later on, the trio will appear at two screenings of their new film This Is the End at nearby Metropolitan Camino Real Cinemas in Goleta. The 6 and 6:30 p.m. screenings are sold out, according to Eventful’s website. The competition played out on Eventful’s site, where students voted to bring the premiere of the upcoming comedy to their campus.

The deadline for voting was April 11. UCSB received 7,578 votes on Eventful’s “Demand it!” platform, just barely surpassing second place contender University of North Carolina at Wilmington. University of North Carolina at Wilmington and third place University of North Texas received 7,531 and 2,121 votes, respectively.

In This Is the End, a comedy starring James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Danny McBride, and Craig Robinson, celebrities attending a party at James Franco’s house find themselves facing the apocalypse. The movie is scheduled to come out in theaters on June 12, 2013.

The UCSB effort was fueled in part by the Facebook event titled “Bring Seth Rogen & Craig Robinson to UCSB” created by fourth-year film major Sara Callahan. The event invited some 10,400 UCSB students and provided a link to Eventful’s “Demand it!” voting page.

In an email interview, Callahan stated that the victory was an example of how UCSB can leverage its sociability for “good.” “This contest underscores the camaraderie and spirit of our campus,” she said.

UCSB is ranked as the second on Eventful’s website, behind leader Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. UC Santa Barbara students were successful in outshining number one Rutgers in April of 2011, winning an appearance of Danny McBride and James Franco and an advanced screening of their movie Your Highness.
