FANCY FEET: Kailani Cordero dances a fiery flamenco.
Paul Wellman

Flamenco, a traditional dance originated by the gypsy culture of Spain’s southern Andalusia region, is a three-pronged art including song, dance, and guitar. Each year, dozens of young ladies compete for the honor of representing the dance aspect by being crowned the Junior Spirit of Old Spanish Days. This year, 11-year-old Kailani Cordero was given the title. As Junior Spirit, Cordero will serve many roles, including leading El Desfile de los Niños (the Children’s Parade) and performing at Tardes de Ronda at the Courthouse Sunken Gardens.
