Where’s Waldo Turns 25

Granada Books Celebrates Waldo on Saturday, August 3

Granada Books is hosting a birthday party for Waldo of Where’s Waldo fame. On August 3 at noon you’re invited to attend Waldo’s 25th birthday! Less than three months since its opening, the bookstore is celebrating 25 years of Where’s Waldo with games, activities, and prizes. The party will offer cake and refreshments to the public, and while participants of the Find Waldo Local scavenger hunt are particularly encouraged to attend, all are welcome. For the month of July Granada Books has been hosting a hunt for Waldo in 20 local businesses. Children of all ages have been encouraged to find Waldo in these locations to earn prizes; the grand prize drawing will take place at Waldo’s birthday party. The hunt has been a success, drawing families into businesses and the public libraries. The hunt provided free, family-oriented summer fun and encouraged the exploration of all that Santa Barbara has to offer. Children who found Waldo at 15 of the possible locations will be eligible for the grand prizes at the party, although one does not need to be present to win. Prizes for the drawing include a deluxe Where’s Waldo set and other Waldo-related prizes.

Volunteers will serve cake and refreshments, paint faces, and run activities. Waldo, Wenda, and Woof will be available for photographs. Attendees are encouraged to dress up as Waldo or Wenda. Waldo’s 25th birthday is a free, public event following the Fiesta Children’s Parade on Saturday, August 3. The community is invited to participate in birthday activities and come explore the bookstore, located at 1224 State Street.
