Sports Highlights: August 6-11

August a Month of Runs and Triathlons

Back-to-back shutout victories have thrust the Santa Barbara Foresters into the winners’ bracket semifinals of the National Baseball Congress World Series at Wichita, Kansas. The Foresters, two-time defending NBC champions, face the Clarinda A’s of Iowa at 8 p.m. (PDT) Tuesday, August 6. The other undefeated teams are the Hutchison (Kansas) Monarchs and Seattle Studs.

Four other teams are alive in the double-elimination tournament, including Santa Barbara’s league rival San Luis Obispo Blues. The results the next four days will pare down the field to the final two teams that will play for the championship on Saturday, August 10.

August is a month of endurance activities in Santa Barbara, including the Run or Dye 5K at UCSB on Saturday, leading up to the Santa Barbara Triathlon on August 24-25.
