Charles George Parkin — a 24-year-old British citizen — was arrested Saturday for trespassing at a home in the Nyborg Estates neighborhood in Solvang where he was selling children's educational books in a reportedly “aggressive” manner.
A homeowner called the police and asked Parkin — who did not have the required solicitors permit — be arrested after she repeatedly told him to leave her property. Deputies were able to locate the man as he drove away from the house. After Parkin was taken into custody, deputies discovered a Ballard School student roster on his person that listed names, addresses, and telephone numbers of students and residents throughout the Santa Ynez Valley.
Deputies had received several complaints in the past several weeks from residents who stated children's books solicitors were “unusually aggressive and inappropriate in their sales approach,” and at times asked personal questions about their children.
Parkin was booked in the County Jail with a $2,500 bail.
