Second Arrest in Olive Street Murder

Suspect Found in Washington State


Police apprehended a second suspect on Tuesday in the murder of Kelly Hunt of Ventura. Isaac Efren Jiminez, 23, also from Ventura, was arrested at about 2:00 p.m. in Longview, Washington by the Longview Police Department — with the help of Santa Barbara detectives — according to a release issued by the SBPD.

Hunt was shot on February 19 on the 1000 block of Olive Street near the rear entrance to Santa Barbara High School. He was a member of the Crazy Wino street gang, according to police. A first suspect, Santa Barbara resident Joseph Castro, was apprehended on Tuesday morning. According to police spokesperson Sgt. Riley Harwood, 20-year-old Castro is a member of a Santa Barbara gang.

Jiminez, he said, is a member of the same gang. He was arrested on a $1,100,000 warrant for murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and participation in a criminal gang while exiting the Washington state apartment into which he’d moved. Before he split town — nine days after the murder — police interviewed and photographed Jiminez for their investigation. He is currently being held in Cowlitz County, Washington, with extradition to Santa Barbara expected.

While Castro — charged with the same crimes and detained with the same bail — and Jiminez are the primary suspects, police warn that there are more. The Santa Barbara Police Department received aid from the Camarillo police and the Vancouver, Washington FBI office as well as the Longview police.
