Recently I had the opportunity to stay at a Trump property for the first time and I now understand why the name carries so much weight. The Trump International Beach Resort in Miami Beach is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The location, the views, the food and the service here have raised the standard for luxury experiences.
As you drive on to the property you know you are in for something special—a huge silver globe of the world greets incoming guests at this oceanfront destination. From here you flow into the chic lobby with every need taken care of. Sometimes service at Five Star properties can get a bit snooty but not here. The customer always comes first at this Trump property.
Set in the exclusive Sunny Isles section of Miami Beach the shinning towers rise above the pristine white beach allowing for better views with each succeeding floor. Our suite on the 25th floor offered floor to ceiling views of the emerald green water that makes this area so popular. What a view? I spent hours just gazing out. The oversized rooms included contemporary furnishings complementing the sunny beachside location. Luxurious bedding, marble baths, and private balconies add to your pleasure. One and two bedroom suites come with a separate living area and complete kitchen. Visit TrumpMiami.com for all accommodation options.
The first night we dined at Neomi the resorts signature restaurant. Chef Kurtis Jantz has developed a contemporary American menu that draws inspiration from nearby tropical islands. Our tasting menu started with yellow fin tuna and a Miami lobster roll. Then we were treated to lamb meatballs, smoked salmon potato salad, and short rib flatbread. The food was expertly prepared and the memory of this evening brings enjoyment to my palate. Naomi’s offers indoor or outdoor dining.
The next day we had lunch at Gilis Beach Club, which is the resorts newest offering and set right on the sand. The Mediterranean cuisine features grilled fish, a raw bar, caviar, steak, and lobster. The open air setting gives guests a close look at the sparkling blue green southern Atlantic just steps away.
Later that evening we dined at the Fusion Lounge and Restaurant in the lobby. Manager Frantz Fiefie overseas a delicious menu anchored by his very fresh sushi. The spicy salmon, dragon, and volcano rolls that we tried were mouth watering. In addition to the sushi they offer platters. These more traditional Asian entrees include tempura, teriyaki, and crispy Hong Kong duck. The filet mignon and garlic shrimp also caught my eye. Fusion also serves as the lobby bar here and a great place to hang out any time of the day.
The Aquanox Spa, Pools, and Planet Kids
Exotic and soothing treatments like the Trump 24-karat gold facial await at the Aquanox Spa on the second floor. I tried their customized massage and felt like Gumby when we were done. The adjacent fitness center had the latest and best equipment on the market.
The grotto style pool is the focal point for all outdoor activities and serves as a buffer between the hotel and the white sand. There is also an adult oriented pool great for doing laps. Waters sports and tennis are also available.
Planet Kids is a great option for families traveling with children aged 4-12. They meet up near the pool and participate in a wide array of “Enviro-Adventures”. This service is available everyday 10 a.m.–4 p.m. and is complimentary for guests except for meals. Themes for the day include Wonders of the Ocean and Eco-Friendly Fun. They also have a program Saturday evenings, 7-11 p.m., which includes dinner.
The golf enthusiast in your group will find everything he could ever want at Trump National Doral Miami just a short drive away. Doral has five 18 hole championship courses and the famed Jim McLean Golf School. The Blue Monster Course hosts the PGA Tour each March and the other courses are equally challenging. Since acquiring Doral, Trump has remodeled the hotel and updated each course. Trump and famed architect Gil Hanse are currently completing the improvements to the Blue Monster. My guess is there will be a few surprises for the boys on the big tour when they return to Doral in 2014.
