– Surgical Eye Expeditions (SEE) International is pleased to announce that it has joined GivingTuesday, a global movement that harnesses the collective power of a unique blend of partners—charities, families, businesses and individuals—who are working together to create activities and engage conversations in order to change how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.

Taking place December 3, 2013 – the Tuesday after Black Friday – GivingTuesday will harness the power of social media to create a global time presence around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping.

SEE International has joined GivingTuesday to celebrate the generosity of its supporters and the thousands of lives that have been transformed through SEE’s international efforts to restore sight. Through the support of its volunteer doctors and caring donors crucial sight-restoring work can continue throughout the world. Randal Avolio, President/CEO of SEE International states that “We are very honored to join this global movement to increase our efforts to restore sight and transform lives around the world. As this is our first time participating in Giving Tuesday, we hope to kick off the holiday giving season with an online campaign to raise $2,500, which will allow us to provide sight-restoring surgery to 25 children around the world. One $100 contribution helps one person. It’s an amazingly efficient gift and the greatest gift that we can give a child.”

GivingTuesday began in 2012 and raised $10 million for more than 2,500 nonprofits across the United States, and reached more than 50 million people worldwide. GivingTuesday’s creators, which include groups like the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation, hope to double last year’s total number of donations this year. The long-term goal is to make this day of selfless giving as easily recognizable and widely discussed as Black Friday and more about a time to give back.

SEE encourages all of its supporters, both here at home in California and around the world, to join this unique call to action. Those who are interested in joining SEE International’s GivingTuesday initiative can visit SEE’website (www.seeintl.org/givingtues) for more information.
