Santa Barbara county and Goleta city officials cited four people at two massage parlors last week after undercover detectives were solicited for sex during an ongoing sting operation.

At New Life Day Spa in the 5600 block of Calle Real, 52-year-old Ling Zhang was cited and released for solicitation of prostitution and 54-year-old Guilan Wang was cited for multiple labor code violations. At Total Relax Massage in the 5700 block of Hollister Avenue, 53-year-old Guo Ping Huang was cited and released for solicitation of prostitution and 52-year-old Lanqing Absher was cited for multiple labor code violations.

The search warrants were carried out by the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Bureau with assistance from the District Attorney’s Office, City of Goleta Code Enforcement, and California’s Employment Development Department.

“If you have information regarding criminal activity at these massage parlors or other similar types of businesses,” said Sheriff’s spokesperson Kelly Hoover in a prepared statement, “you are asked to call the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Bureau at (805) 681-4175 or you can leave an anonymous tip at (805) 681-4171.”

There is criminal activity afoot at Wall St. New York, NY and Washington DC.

Spacey, you forgot to mention that the criminal activity in those places are NOT victim-less crimes (as opposed to the alleged "crimes" in the massage joint).

Isn't this very same thing happening at Elings Park?

No way, such activity happening in OUR fair community? I really thought Santa Barbara County was on the right track when they started closing down those sinful clothing-optional beaches and started opening those recreational "gentlemens clubs" and massage parlors.

Ken, prostitution at Elings Park? (in an excited voice) Where... WHERE?! I suddenly have an itch for a "massage"!

Bill, here's what you're missing: The "gentlemen's clubs" you speak of:
a) Don't cater to gentlemen.
b) Get their male patrons all testosteroned up so they can hit the State Street bars in that state, this will lead to drinking.
c) Get the drunken stragglers/leftovers from the State Street drunk scene to live up their fantasy.
Not that there's anything wrong w/ this, this is the standard operating procedure.

It must be sad if you have to resort to soliciting when you're in your 50's.

Wow I feel so much safer now that these "criminals" are off the street... What a joke!!

Botany that is so ridiculous, it's not 'sad' at all. It is not really the same as 'prostitution' and it is a traditional part of their business. And the only reason they have to ask is because I imagine the younger ones don't have to ask, they get asked.

It's not like they are on a street corner doing smack, they are not dressing up in slutty prostitution uniforms and having sexual intercourse with their clients.. they are giving MASSAGES. There is no inherent difference between massaging somebody's calf and massaging their genitals, especially if they are a business client. It takes the same amount of work, focus, knowledge, etc. The only difference is whatever the extra price they are asking for whatever extra service they are giving which is relatively substantial in comparison. Why WOULDN'T they do it?

This is a victimless crime and the police should really mind their own business. Although my guess is that this is great advertisement for their business and I am guessing their appointments will be up at least 20% for the next few weeks. They will earn back their fines and more.

The worst thing about Chinese massage parlors is an hour later you need another "massage".

Ken, its not a massage.

Well, so a few undercover cops go there having a good time on our tax dollars, just to close these places (that harm no one) down so no one else can have the fun — or how does this work? Nothing else to do in matters of crime?

Ken: Should I explain the joke or do you want to do it?

Sir Blah, (beloved disciple of Draxor) I will explain the joke since Clausen and Volok will drag their feet on this.

There is a belief that when you eat Chinese food, in a half hour or an hour later, you will be hungry again and want more as opposed to other foods that satisfy your appetite for longer. I myself haven't really noticed any difference, but the analogy is that any experience you have with anything Chinese will satisfy you for a while, but only a short while.

An old joke (might be a vaudeville joke) is "I took a Chinese girl out on a date, took her home, and a half hour later I asked her out again".

You mean MaSsaGe? Is that a secret Chinese code? Are you a spy? Now I'm getting paranoid. That's it! The Chinese are going to take us over by seducing us with massage parlors/
