Timothy Noah, Senior Editor, The New Republic will present Inequality and the 2012 Election on at 8 p.m. on Monday, February 4 at the Lobero Theatre. Timothy Noah is the author of The Great Divergence: America’s Growing Inequality Crisis And What We Can Do About It. Timothy Noah has served as senior writer at Slate, reporter for the Wall Street Journal, an assistant managing editor for U.S. News & World Report, a congressional correspondent for Newsweek, and an editor of the Washington Monthly. Dennis Kucinich, an outspoken progressive leader in the US House of Representatives from 1997 to 2013, will deliver the 12th Annual Frank K. Kelly Lecture on Humanity’s Future on February 8 at 7:30 p.m. Rep. Kucinich, was a presidential contender in 2004 and 2008, and served for many years as the United Nations Representative for the group Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament. The Annual Frank K. Kelly Lecture on Humanity’s Future was established by the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation in 2001. Frank K. Kelly was a founder and senior vice president of the Foundation. He was a visionary advocate for humanity and inspired many people through his writing and example to take action on behalf of humanity. On Sunday, February 10, Filmmaker Aaron Lieber presents the inspiring story of professional surfer Lakey Peterson in the world premiere of Zero to 100: The Lakey Peterson Story. Discovered at age 14 after completing the first female areal in professional competition, Lakey Peterson shines a bright light on where the female surf industry is heading. With never before seen interviews from Lakey’s early life right through to her 2012 win at the US Open and footage from some of the best surf spots on the planet, the film offers an intimate window into what drives her to win on the waves and off. From surfing to philanthropic work, Zero to 100 is an inspiring true story for people of all ages that will have you laughing, crying and doing push ups, by the end. CAMA Masterseries presents Christian Tetzlaff, violin, on Monday, February 11 at 8 p.m. Christian Tetzlaff returns to the Lobero, following on his stellar Masterseries performances in solo recital (2008) and with the Tetzlaff Quartet (2011). An artist known for musical integrity, technical assurance and compelling interpretations, Tetzlaff is internationally recognized as one of the great violinists of his generation. He has performed and recorded a broad spectrum of repertoire, from Bach’s unaccompanied sonatas and partitas to 19th century masterworks by Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Brahms; and from 20th century concertos by Bartók, Berg and Shostakovich to world premieres of contemporary works. Tetzlaff frequently collaborates with distinguished artists including Leif Ove Andsnes, Lars Vogt, and with his Tetzlaff Quartet. NewNoiseSB presents Ryan Bingham on Sunday, March 3. Bingham began writing songs when he was 17 to get away from his troubled Texan home life. The Oscar, Golden Globe, and Grammy wins for his song “The Weary Kind” from the 2009 movie Crazy Heart caused a wonderful commotion that was at times humbling and overwhelming to Bingham, also named the Americana Music Association’s 2010 artist of the year. State Street Ballet presents Beauty and the Beast on Saturday, March 9 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m. This production of Beauty and the Beast, by Emmy Award-winning choreographer Robert Sund, adapts this classic story based on the Jean Cocteau film of 1925.
