Vandenberg Air Force Base has announced the test launch of a three-stage ground-based interceptor missile sometime this Saturday between the hours of 2 and 6 p.m. Overseen by the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, the test will examine components of the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense system, designed to intercept incoming warheads in space. Saturday’s exercise, however, won’t involve an intercept and no target missile will be launched.
