Sports Highlights: July 9-16

Foresters and Semana Nautica Fill the Weekend

The North Division of California Collegiate League is shaping up like the National League West. Only two games separate the first-place San Luis Obispo Blues (14-7) from the last-place Santa Barbara Foresters (12-9), and the baseball teams play each other the next two days (Tuesday-Wednesday, July 9-10) at UCSB’s Caesar Uyesaka Stadium.

The Foresters, 23-9 overall, are coming off a four-game sweep of the Rawlings California Cup tournament, including a 2-0 victory over the Blues in Sunday’s championship game. After playing the Blues this week, they start another homestand Friday against the Santa Paula Halos (13-8 in the CCL) and Conejo Oaks (12-9).

The Semana Nautica Summer Sports Festival winds down this weekend with softball tournaments at Elings Park, masters volleyball at East Beach, masters swimming at Los Banos Del Mar, the “Krazy Kardboard Kayak Race” at West Beach, youth sailing races, and a six-mile ocean swim from Goleta to Hendry’s Beach.
