Sensational One Night Stand Art Event Returns For Third Year

Annual fundraiser features the work of over 200-plus professional and celebrity artists including Yoko Ono and Kent Twitchell

On Saturday, August 24, 2013, Santa Barbara’s Art from Scrap is holding its annual One Night Stand fundraiser, a one night only art event featuring the work of over 200 professional and celebrity artists from around the country.

SANTA BARBARA, CA –On Saturday, August 24, 2013, Santa Barbara’s Art from Scrap is holding its annual One Night Stand fundraiser, a one night only art event featuring the work of over 200 professional and celebrity artists from around the country.

One Night Stand is an art lovers’ dream. Here’s how it works; professional and celebrity artists are personally invited to create a 9”x 9” work of art in any medium. All of the art is hung at Gallery 27 at Brooks Institute at 27 East Cota Street. The element of surprise is crucial to One Night Stand; none of the artwork in the show is labeled. The artist’s name is revealed only after the art is purchased. Each piece is sold for $200.00 on a first-come, first-serve basis with the proceeds benefiting Art From Scrap, a program of Explore Ecology. The event includes a Silent Auction, food and refreshments.

The list of artists participating in One Night Stand grows daily. Yoko Ono, Kent Twitchell, Michael McMillen, John Nava, Phoebe Brunner, Thomas Van Stein, Courtland Johnson and many more have already contributed their work for what promises to be the art event of the year.

“We’ve had people lining up early to get in every year. I can’t think of any other art event that has a line going around the block.” said Executive Director Cay Sanchez. “One Night Stand is so much fun because no one knows whose work they are buying until after they buy it. It’s also different from other exhibitions because the art is shown for only one night. One Night Stand is a benefit for Art From Scrap and also a great opportunity for people to purchase art by a famous artist for only $200.00.”

Last year’s sold-out event raised $40,000 to support Art From Scrap’s mission of environmental education and art programming.

Tickets are available online at www.OneNightStandAFS.com, at the door, or by calling 805-884-0459 x17. Gates open at 5:30 pm on Saturday, august 24th. About Art from Scrap: Starting out in 1990 as a ReUse retail store, an Arts Center, and an environmental education program, Art from Scrap (AFS) has expanded to help tens of thousands of students throughout Santa Barbara County to understand the importance of conserving their environment through reducing waste, improving water quality, and gardening. As its programs have expanded over the past two decades, AFS outgrew its name, and has since evolved into Explore Ecology.

About Explore Ecology: Explore Ecology is an environmental education and creative art discovery organization that evolved out of Art from Scrap and brings the ReUse retail store, art workshops, and environmental outreach programs under one umbrella. Explore Ecology brings an array of programs to the community in an effort to encourage people to think creatively through hands-on science exploration and art discovery. The programs bring together environmental awareness and artistic creativity to create a connection between people and their environment.
