Current Fielding Board member and President/CEO of Montecito Bank & Trust, Janet Garufis, commented “Salud brings a unique and valuable set of experiences to the Board. As a Fielding graduate and local politician, he has a lot to offer.”

Salud was first elected to the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors in March, 2004, and was reelected in June, 2012. He currently serves as Chair of the 2013 Board. He holds a Master’s Degree in Organization Management from Fielding Graduate University. Salud stated, “As an alumnus and resident in the community where the prestigious Fielding Graduate University is located, I am honored to have been invited to become a member of its national Board of Directors. I look forward to learning and serving on the Board of this excellent and distinguished educational institution.”

Salud served eight years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, including active duty service during the 1991 Gulf War. Over the years, his public service has demonstrated a strong commitment to protecting our natural environment and resources, enhancing public safety, and working regionally to address our transportation, housing, and workforce challenges. He championed the development of a comprehensive customer service program in county government to ensure responsive, effective, and accountable government for all residents and initiated the effort to create the Blue Ribbon Budget Task Force to examine our county operations and budget process. He has also advocated for health and social service safety net programs for our most vulnerable residents–children, frail and elderly, poor and the homeless that includes co-sponsoring an initiative to provide health insurance for all the County’s children and spearheading the creation of a job skills and mentorship program for at-risk youth throughout the County.

Fielding President Richard Meyers stated, “He was one of the first people I met when I moved to Santa Barbara and was very impressed with him. His commitment to Fielding as an alumnus is very sincere and he will bring excellent leadership to the Board.”
