Town Center Moves North: Town Center Gallery Artists

The Santa Barbara County Arts Commission invites the public to attend an opening reception for a new exhibition, Monday, July 1, from 3-5pm, immediately following the Ribbon-Cutting at 1pm for the completion of the Joseph Centeno Government Center remodel at 511 E. Lakeside Pkwy., Santa Maria. The exhibition, Town Center Moves North, July 1 – September 27, will take place in the newly named Betteravia Gallery North where gallery hours are 8am-5pm. Following the Ribbon-Cutting, two free art demonstrations by Town Center Artists, Michael Corob: Acrylic Painting and Beverly Johnson: The Art of Silk Painting will take place in the lobby of the gallery from 3-4pm on July 1st as well.

The Town Center Gallery officially opened in 1983, experiencing several name changes over the years, but it has always provided a place where artists of many backgrounds from the Santa Maria area could share their art for the enrichment of the entire community. Over the last 25 years the gallery has moved to several locations, including the Veteran’s Building in Santa Maria, the Town Center Mall and the Santa Maria Airport. In June 2006 they made an important leap and became incorporated as a non-profit organization, with an appointed Board of Directors, Officers and members.

For the current exhibition, Town Center Moves North, artist members were invited to bring three of their best and most current works for jurying. Rita Ferri, Curator of Collections and Visual Arts Coordinator for the County Arts Commission will make selections for the exhibition. Concurrently in the Betteravia Gallery South, >The Anne & Walon Green Collection of Channing Peake paintings will be exhibited.

Town Center Gallery artists continue to fulfill their purpose to promote their regional artist members with their community involvement. They have been a participant in the Autumn Arts Grapes & Grains Festival in Santa Maria since its beginning in 1984 and look forward to other future community events. The Town Center Moves North exhibition promises to further the Town Center Gallery’s community-forward arts reputation with the increased exposure of talented artists found in their own backyard.
