The Shalom Garden was built with a gift from Montecito resident Kathleen Barry, in honor of her late husband, Roy Mankovitz.

The Shalom Garden honors the Jewish spiritual tradition. Plants will be based on the traditional seven species mentioned in the Bible’s Book of Levticus: barley, grape, pomegranate, olive, dare and fig. These will be supplemented by other traditional flowers and herbs mentioned in the Torah. The garden is adjacent to the agricultural areas of the property, where an organic kitchen garden and orchard are located.

The Shalom Garden will have a spacious area where community celebrations and gatherings can take place.

Jewish communities who come to La Casa de Maria will use it for gatherings, prayers, rituals and celebrations.
