Santa Barbara Village & Jewish Family Service to host “Federal Government Spending: WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?”

Santa Barbara Village and Jewish Family Service are pleased to host a free informative presentation, open to the general public.

Federal Government Spending:

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

Tuesday, March 12, 2013 / 2:30-4:00pm

@ The Bronfman Family Jewish Community Center, 524 Chapala Street, Santa Barbara

FREE EVENT – All Are Welcome!

RAND Corporation Economist, Dr. Julia Lowell, will lead a structured discussion through issues including:

• Economic justifications for public spending

• Historical trends in U.S. federal, state, and local government spending

• The federal government budget process

• Major spending categories in the President’s proposed FY 2014 budget

U.S. government spending in an international perspective

Audience participation will be welcomed, with Dr. Lowell elucidating her interpretations and knowledge of the above subjects.

“It’s important to understand how the federal government spends money to better understand the important economic issues of the day facing our nation,” explains Barbara Kuhn, Director of Jewish Family Service. “This topic may feel intimidating or confusing to some, so we want to help people to understand it better,” says Naomi Kovacs, Executive Director of Santa Barbara Village. “Our government’s justifications and priorities for spending can and do affect people’s lives at a personal level, not just in a general or theoretical sense. It’s also interesting to learn about the budgeting process and to get some historical and international perspective on government spending.”

Very limited parking will be available on site for this event, though street parking should be available and four City Parking Lots are conveniently located within 2-3 blocks: Paseo Nuevo Mall, and Lots 10, 11 & 12.

To RSVP, contact Dan Wozniak of Santa Barbara Village: dan@sbvillage.org or (805) 729-5038.
