105-Year-Old Woman Gets Birthday Wish

Edythe Kirchmaier, who at 105 is Facebook’s oldest registered user, had her birthday wish fulfilled this week. Her desire was that Direct Relief International, the Goleta-based nonprofit Kirchmaier has been volunteering with for 40 years, receive 105,000 likes on Facebook. Buoyed by appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Kirchmaier was able to bring a lot of attention to Direct Relief in the last few months, and she continues to volunteer every Tuesday morning, writing thank-you letters to donors.
