The pot-smuggling crew of a distressed panga boat landed at Vandenberg Air Force Base last week — about 1.5 miles north of Wall Beach — and off-loaded what Homeland Security officials estimate was $2.7 million worth of marijuana. It was the first known landing on Vandenberg, which commands a 40-mile stretch of coastline, and no arrests have been made despite the deployment of at least one helicopter, a fixed-wing plane, multiple horses, and several all-terrain vehicles.

According to David Wales, special agent with Homeland Security, it appears the engine had been knocked off the boat, and the occupants were forced to land where they could. After the boat was discovered, the base went into force protection mode “Bravo” and adopted what are known as “Charley” measures. Translated, that’s the equivalent of a very intense fire drill in which all 2,000 structures on Vandenberg are inspected and secured. Vandenberg media officials declined to elaborate on how a panga breached base security, explaining, “Vandenberg does not discuss security measures or monitoring/surveillance capabilities.”

According to a statement by Lt. Col. Gerald Mulhollen, “Panga boats are routinely observed offshore of Vandenberg and in these cases the U.S. Coast Guard and Homeland Security investigators are contacted.” Last year, Homeland Security — working with a coalition of law enforcement agencies — reported confiscating 26,000 pounds of marijuana from panga boat operations taking place in Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo counties combined, a big increase from the year before. That traffic was placed in check after a Coast Guard petty officer was killed trying to stop a panga off the coast of Santa Cruz Island this past winter. According to Wales, a “small armada” was dispatched to San Diego and that, coupled with Coast Guard air surveillance, put a significant dent in low-slung speedboats motoring up the coast from Mexico 75 to 100 miles offshore.

Because of federal budget cuts associated with sequestration, Wales suggested that the stream of pangas laden with marijuana would soon be flowing again. “We can expect an uptick in landings in the immediate future,” he said. “When these assets leave the waters down south, the smugglers will figure it out and make a mad dash up here.” Wales noted that pangas had intentionally landed at other military installations in California — Camp Pendleton and Seal Beach — but that this was a first for Vandenberg. At the time of the landing, the beach was and remains closed to the public because it’s the nesting season for the federally endangered snowy plover. Base officials said no plovers were disturbed or hurt.

Needless to say, it's a HUGE deal that a boat can land undetected on the shore at a U.S. military base. There's probably little to stop terrorists from breaching a nuclear facility, either.
They not only landed, they unloaded a ton of drugs, then moseyed on their way. To...somewhere in our community. Pretty scary.
I wonder if anyone will be held accountable.
Also, grammar note: the horses were not deployed; officers on horseback were deployed, or mounted security was deployed. Riderless horses grazing don't do much for security.

agreed eddiekd...with all the money spent on our military, we can't detect a panga boat with so much product on it?! We don't know where these people are on a military base? Sequester NEEDED.

" Base officials said no plovers were disturbed or hurt."

Well now there is a nice set of priorities! Unbelievable. This is almost as bad as the cops on tricycles. Seriously, aren't there nuclear missiles at Vandenberg? If these #$%@weeds can mosey on up from the border, makes you wonder what someone with some sophistication could do. Also, wondering how that security is up at Diablo canyon. Somebody better do something before someone gets hurt.

How about we decriminalize marijuana and find something else much more threatening to focus on... like GMO's taking over our food supplies, nuclear plant meltdowns, the criminals on Wall Street getting away with massive robbery... I could go on, but I find that it gets really depressing when much of the nation either has their heads up their arses or buried in the sand, and/or sometimes both.

"force protection mode “Bravo” and adopted what are known as “Charley” measures"? BRAVO is alert status, CHARLIE, is intense security measures employed, searches of all vehicles, Gate and Patrol staff issued AR's and working in pairs with stop ot shoot employed especially on all military bases at the least.
Department of Energy has a select Tactical Security team at every operational power plant which is based on para-military weaponry and tactics, armored vehicles, strict facility control but then again if a Panga can land at a Air Force base undetected and off-load drugs, then meld in to the flora and fona before Base security can catch them or track them down; they either knew someone on base or contacted someone to extract them from the area without alerting the bases Military Police. Seems a little fishy to me...

Ok, so they keep arresting these people and they keep showing up. Does anybody have any idea what their success rate in capturing these people is? 30%? 10%? 5%? 2%? Less?

You have to ask, is this really working? Of course it isn't.

Consider the latest findings released by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). They found that cannabis not only halts and/or reverses several types of cancers, but that it has absolutely zero correlation with lung cancer. I've known this for 13 years and I'm pretty young, the establishment is apparently just finding this stuff out.

"In addition to anti-cancer properties, separate research reported marijuana appears to have "profound nerve-protective and brain-enhancing properties that could potentially treat many neurodegenerative disorders." In its report, the National Cancer Institute stated cannabis effectively treats insomnia and referenced a placebo-controlled study in cancer patients showing increased quality of sleep and relaxation in those treated with tetrahydrocannabinol, an active component in marijuana.

Although generally not a life threatening condition, Pappas referred to insomnia as a health issue regularly treated with prescription drugs zolpidem (brand name Ambien) and eszopiclone (brand name Lunesta). According to their manufacturers' websites, zolpidem and eszopiclone have been shown to cause severe side effects including aggressiveness, hallucinations, confusion, or suicidal thoughts. Pappas noted that, unlike those drugs, studies on insomnia similar to those reported by the National Cancer Institute show medical marijuana effectively treats insomnia at a far lower cost and with fewer side effects."

We need to stop this insanity RIGHT NOW. Look at what we are doing to ourselves:

Mother's Refusal To Put Child On Psych Drugs Results In Swat Teams & a TANK.

Police in North Dakota borrowed a !!!!!!!!$154 million!!!!!!!!! MQ-9 Predator B drone from the Department of Homeland Security to arrest a family of anti-government separatists who refused to return six cows that wandered onto their farm. After a standoff over the refusal to return the cows, local authorities called DHS and asked them to deploy a multi-million dollar drone to surveil the farmer’s property. This incident was the first time a drone owned by the U.S. government was used against civilians for local police work.

Meanwhile Obama's drone program overseas has killed thousands of innocent people. They like to do what is referred to as a "double-tap" where they will hit a target and then wait 10 minutes for the families and emergency workers to show up and then hit it AGAIN, sometimes killing and injuring DOZENS of innocent people!!

Not only is that despicable, but "technically" illegal. It's also terrorism. The US Govt. and the UN are the biggest terrorists in the world, the intelligence agencies for decades have been funneling trillions in drug money from drugs that they help get into the country and they use it to fund their covert operations to support, fund and arm uprising against democratically elected governments in order to install IMF friendly dictators who are obligated to put the country into massive debt so the IMF can leech and profit off of every single country they install a central bank in. Which is every single country except for Iran, North Korea, Sudan and up until the last 10 years, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya has had a central bank. In Libya, an IMF central bank was established in Benghazi while the country was still at war.

All America's Wars are Bank Wars

I'm sick of it.

If you don’t think the people who control our government aren’t about to wage a full-scale war against the liberties of the American people then you are watching far too much TV news.

Obama, as much as I disagree with his economic policies may have meant well in the beginning, but the truth is that the people who control him know something about him that can NEVER get it out or else it will destroy him. I don’t know what that is, exactly, but I do know that every politician with any real amount of power is pretty much guaranteed to have some sort of skeleton in their closet that would ruin their entire lives, ready to release it to the public as soon as they go rogue. The last President we had who didn’t have any significant skeletons in their closet was JFK. Is it coming together yet?

Back in those days the media was a bit more respectful of people's private lives, at least that is the impression that I get.

I think MM in the Lincoln bedroom would have caused a lot of intrigue if anything, I mean who could turn her down at that time anyway? And the Addison's would have probably just made people feel more sorry for him.

No, I'm talking about things a bit more sinister mixed in with all that. Or maybe he was really born in Kenya and they've just been hiding all of the relevant documentation. Who knows? There's a good chance Obama's mom may have even lied to him about where he was born so he could be a citizen in the country and he doesn't even know it.
